Imagine you call 999 because you need an emergency Ambulance, a couple of minutes later you hear the sirens, but no Ambulance arrives, You continue to hear the sirens circling around for the next five minutes, but still no Ambulance, then your phone rings and its the Ambulance, they can not find your house because the post code is taking them somewhere else. This can be avoided by using the "what3words" app. this is an app that uses your location to generate three unique words that identify your exact location (accurate to 3 metres) The "what3words" app has been adopted by all of the emergency services and is now routinely used.
What to do. Rather than wait for an emergency, it is recommended that you stand at your front door, log into the app and get the three words that are associated with your location. Write them down and leave it somewhere that is easy to access. Hopefully you will never need to use this app, but it is good to have it ready.
Dunoon Community Council are asking the community to get involved and pass this information to everyone. We are also asking, if you know of someone vulnerable, or someone who doesn't have a smart phone, could you please do it for them. This really could save a life.
The image above is an example of how the app works. The three words linked to the Jobcentre in Dunoon are "Fetching-Whirlwind-Shift" These can be passed onto the 999 operator, who in turn will pass these onto the emergency services crew who are dispatched to you.
