Two online engagement events have been scheduled to provide information about the National Speed Management Review and proposed changes to speed limits in Scotland.
The National Speed Management Review seeks to ensure speed limits in Scotland are appropriate and contribute to reducing injury and death on our roads. It invites feedback on proposals to reduce the national speed limit on single carriageway roads from 60 mph to 50 mph for motor vehicles and to increase speed limits for goods vehicles over 7.5 tonnes on single carriageways from 40 mph to 50 mph, and on dual carriageways from 50 mph to 60 mph.
To support this consultation a series of in-person events have been scheduled. In addition to this, two online events will take place on:
The online events will include a pre-recorded video presentation and afterwards there will be a question and answer session with the team involved in the review. We ask if you can pre-submit your questions via email to roadsafety@transport.gov.scot, however the team will also try to address questions asked in the chat.
To attend any of the online events, please sign up by visiting the Eventbrite page. The link to join the online event will be shared with registered attendees prior to the event. If you do not wish to register your attendance using Eventbrite, please contact roadsafety@transport.gov.scot and let us know which online event you would like to attend. A link will then be shared with you prior to the event.
For those that are unable to attend an in-person or online event, all materials are available to view via the virtual exhibition room. To find out more about the National Speed Management Review, including details of all consultation events, please visit the consultation webpage. The final date to respond to this consultation is 5 March 2025.
If you have any questions, please contact roadsafety@transport.gov.scot. I would be grateful if you could share this information within your local community.
During 2024 Dunoon Community Council instigated and paid for a refurbishment project of eight (somewhat worse for wear) wooden benches on Alexandra Parade. The project has been completed. On behalf of Dunoon Community Council, I would like to extend our thanks to John, Richard and Drew of the Community Shed for their expertise, initial work and making facilities available. The project then moved to Steve Gilpin and his workers at the Justice Community Payback System who have done a sterling job along with assistance from the Help Argyll & Bute Project. The wooden planks and fixing bolts were sourced locally from Fynewoods and John Tyre and Sons who gave much appreciated discounts. The remaining resources have been used to refurbish the benches at the Co-op bus stop, Kirk Street and beyond. A real community effort.
On Sunday, 15 December, a new timetable will be introduced, which represents our commitment to making Scotland’s Railway more accessible, sustainable, and efficient.
